Carlo's Restaurant A Taste of Italy in a corner of Scotland

Established in 1988 by proprietors Carlo and Heather Bignami. The restaurant is a small family-run business with only twelve tables, allowing for a comfortable and relaxed dining experience. From the Lombardy region of Italy, Carlo has over thirty years experience as a chef. Carlo always sources local products where available and his specials reflect seasonal produce. At Carlo’s, fresh fish is important, with mussels and baked sea bass being a speciality!

Threave Estate Terrace and Stables Cafés

With a new designer interior (cleverly using recycled materials) and seasonal menus that champion fresh local produce, the Terrace Café is fast becoming a destination in its own right. Our unrivalled tradition for home baking continues, with new cakes and sweet treats on the menu daily. There are ample tables indoors, as well as outdoor seating from which to enjoy the views over the garden and estate. There are also new soft-seating and dog-friendly areas, and children’s toys and books are available. During the summer season, the Stables Café at the centre of the garden is great for refreshments, soup, cake and ice cream. The Stables courtyard is a real sun trap, but if the weather turns (it is Scotland after all!) the café is a welcome place to shelter with a hot drink.

Mr Pook's DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY ON A PLATE

We opened in spring 2018 and Mr “Ed” Pook has taken charge of offering you Dumfries & Galloway on a plate. During the current Covid crisis, we adapted our original style of service and started Carry Oot to help get us through 2020. As we start 2021, we are going back to our roots. Once we are able to reopen again (when it is safe to do so) we will focus on serving our more traditional Mr Pook’s fare. We continue to work closely with local suppliers as well as foraging & collecting ingredients, Mr Pook’s Kitchen brings the best raw ingredients to the dishes, turning those ingredients into innovative tastes of the region.
